Description
Notes

This optional key name can be used to indicate the approximate size in megabytes of the index cache. Appropriate values range from 1 to 1000.

Note: because windows uses unallocated memory for disk caching, bigger does not necessarily mean better so some experimentation may be needed to optimise performance.

If all the indexes can be held in memory there is a very significant performance increase. As only indexes are cached there is no extra risk of data loss compared to previous versions of Equinox.

Although Equinox does write index nodes to disk in the background, if a large operation is immediately followed by a shutdown it may be some time before all the nodes are committed and the server is able to stop. The amount of outstanding cache writing to do is indicated in the status line in single user. In client/server this information can be found on the Statistics Tab in JDisplay or by pressing CTRL+F6 in the client. There is a section called “Unwritten Data Mb” in the “Index Cache” column.
